Right in the Middle of an Ordinary Life, Love Gives You a Fairy Tale

In honor of August being Romance Awareness month and a very special one for me, I’d like to share a personal story.

I remember something special my husband gave me one year. As part of my gift, and on two typed pieces of paper, my husband gave me his time. He wrote down everything he remembered about me and us.

The letter started with I remember
Where our first date was.
When I knew I loved you.
What song you sang to me the evening I asked you to marry me.
What I felt like when I saw you in your wedding dress.

As you can imagine, it was a blubber fest.

It is always fun to get gifts, but I would have to say this gift was one of my favorites. I still have the letter and cherish it as one of my most prized possessions.

He’s such a romantic, flowers, jewelry, shopping trips. He knows me, but he remembered stories I told him, what I wore, and etc. There is no greater gift than the written word.

I remember when I first met him. I told a friend “Now, I would marry him. After that chance meeting he quit that job and I didn’t see him again until the next month at my new job. Fate brought us together. We became friends and started dating. I knew I was going to marry him, but I waited for him to realize it himself. Nine months after we dated we were engaged and seven months later we were married. This month we celebrate our thirty-fifth wedding anniversary.

“Once in a while,
right in the middle of an ordinary life,
love gives you a fairy tale.”
